A verb phrase is an expression that
contains at least a verb and may have
more words. It can fill the blank in the
sentence structure Subject+ tells what
somebody or something does or did.
There are several kinds of verb phrases. Some
verb phrases consist of a verb and other
words: cleaned the house, counted the books,
mowed the lawn.
My sister cleaned the house.

Example The teacher counted the book.

My brother mowed the lawn.


ACTIVITY
Underline the verb phrases used in the following sentences:

1. The students cleaned their rooms before going home.

2. The teachers explained the lessons very clearly.
