PROBLEM STATEMENT
Since the 19th century, oil has played a pivotal role in shaping human
civilization. Its versatile applications have driven remarkable
technological progress, spanning from the earliest oil lamps to the
expansive automotive industry that defines modern life. This
widespread reliance on oil, while fueling innovation and development,
has also ushered in challenges stemming from its production,
transportation, and consumption. Among these challenges, the
occurrence of oil spillages stands as a significant concern. The
accidental release of oil into marine environments poses grave threats
to ecosystems, aquatic life, and even human livelihoods. Recognizing
the urgent need for effective solutions, this project emerges as a
beacon of hope to aid in controlling this problem.
HOW WILL THIS PROJECT BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY

This project intends to create sea-based robots equipped with GPS, oil
presence sensors, pump, and communication technology that are designed
to autonomously detect and contain oil spills. It'll place protective booms
around the spill perimeter. The robot is used near sea shores, rivers, massive
harbors, and also shores near housing areas. It connects with a land-based
control center through onboard internet receivers. When oil is detected, the
robot alerts the control center for an initiation for the procedure. Upon
confirmation, the robot automatically deploys booms. In case of inclement
weather, a control center-initiated cancellation can be activated. If all
procedures goes as planned, the robot will return to the dock on itself for a
boom resupply. This innovation boosts marine conservation by removing the
need for human intervention, enhancing spill response efficiency.
