What are
standardized tests?
- Tests administered and scored in a standard
way
- A method of assessment created by the school
or teacher
- Test consisting of a set of questions from a
question bank
- You receive a grade based on how many
questions you got right or wrong
- Can be true or false, short answer, multiple
choice, fill in the blank, etc
- Usually worth 5-40% of your grade
Pros to standardized
tests
- Universal standard so there is no difference
between students
- Easy for teachers, IAs or TAs to mark
- Can be completed easily online
- Easy way to compare students
- Sometimes can pay off if you really know your
stuff
- Can boost your confidence if you know well
- Encourages students to study hard
