What is Learning?
Learning can be defined as a relatively permanent change in behaviour or potential
behavior as a result of direct or indirect experience. Learning is thus a change in
behaviour as a result of experience.

Meaning of Learning
There are two primary elements in meaning of learning:
1.Change must be relatively permanent: This means that after “learning” our behavior must be different,
either better or worse as compared to our behavior prior to this learning experience.

2.This change must occur due to some kind of experience or practice.

Nature of Learning
Learning is a relatively permanent change in knowledge or
behavior that results from practice or experience. There are
several key points in this definition.

• Learning comes change

• Change in knowledge or behavior has to be relatively permanent or l

ong-lasting

• Learning takes place as a result of practice or through experience

THREE THEORIES OF LEARNING

1. CLASSICAL CONDITIONING

2.OPERANT CONDITIONING

3.SOCIAL LEARNING
By Ivan Pavlov
What Is Operant Conditioning?
• Burrhus Fredric (B.F.) Skinner
• Operant conditioning is a method of learning that occurs
through rewards and punishments for behavior. Through operant
conditioning, an association is made between a behavior and a
consequence for that behavior.
WHAT IS SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY?
• The social learning theory proposed by Albert Bandura has become
perhaps the most influential theory of learning and development.

There are three core concepts at the heart of social learning

theory.
1) The idea that people can learn through observation.
2) The idea that internal mental states are an essential part of this
process.
3) This theory recognizes that just because something has been
learned, it does not mean that it will result in a change in behavior.
CONCLUSION
Learning and development is about creating the right culture and environment for individuals and

organisations to learn and grow. It's knowing the current and future capability needs of the organisation, as well
as how to create a learning culture that drives engagement in ongoing

professional development. The term, learning and development, encompasses any professional

development a business provides to its employees. It is considered to be a core area of human

resources management, and may sometimes be referred to as training and development, learning

and performance, or talent development (TD).

"The beauty of learning is you can choose what you want to learn about and enjoy
it."
