WHAT IS A CULTURE
• Culture refers to the collective set of beliefs, practices,
customs, traditions, values, art, and social behaviors
that characterize a particular group of people.
• It encompasses how a community expresses itself,
interacts, and passes on its way of life from one
generation to the next.
• Culture shape identity, influences behaviors, and
provides a sense of belonging to those who share it. It
can manifest in various forms, including language,
religion, art, cuisine, clothing, rituals, and more.

• Sindhi culture is a dynamic fabric woven with different customs, cultural


variety, and a deep connection to its past. Sindhi culture celebrates events
such as the Cheti Chand New Year and Diwali, delivers a feast of flavours
through dishes such as Sai Bhaji and Sindhi Biryani, and lives through art
forms such as Ajrak printing and beautiful folk music.

• Its welcoming culture, emphasis on family, and vibrant festivals capture the
heart of a country rooted in history, resilience, and unity.
LANGUAGE
The Sindhi language is an integral part of the culture. It is an
Indo-Aryan language written in the Arabic script. It has a rich
literary heritage, with poetry, folktales, and literature that reflect
the essence of Sindhi life.

Sindhi cuisine is known for its unique flavors and variety.
Dishes like Sai Bhaji (a mix of vegetables), Sindhi Curry, Koki
(flatbread), and Sindhi Biryani are popular. The culture's
culinary identity is also reflected in sweets like Sohan Halwa
and Lolo.
FESTIVALS
Cheti Chand, the Sindhi New Year, is a major festival celebrated
with great enthusiasm. Sindhis also observe Diwali, Holi, Eid,
and other religious festivals. Chaliho Sahib, a 40-day period of
fasting and prayers, is another important tradition.

ART AND CRAFT


Sindhi culture boasts vibrant art forms like Ajrak, a colorful
block-printed fabric often used in clothing. Sindhi embroidery is
intricate and adorns garments like sarees and shawls.

MUSIC AND DANCE


The traditional music of Sindh is characterized by instruments like
the dholak, sitar, and flute. Lada, a form of folk dance, is
performed at weddings and other celebrations.
