Non-fiction refers to stories that are based on events that actually

happened in reality; the character's is real people and features fact.
 EXAMPLE:

Autobiography—the life story of a real person written by that person.

Biography—the life story of a real person written by another person.
Personal essay—brief reflection on ideas or events in a person’s life.
Article—story in a magazine, newspaper, or encyclopedia.
Research report—information in an encyclopedia or textbook or on the Web.
Diary and journal—personal story, idea, or reflection.
