When do we use the Past Simple?

We use the Past Simple with regular and irregular verbs to talk
about the past.

A: Did you ring your brother?


B: Yes, I did. I rang him three times.

I finished all the work, but Max didn’t help me.

My mum came with us, but my dad didn’t come.

Find the Past Simple forms in the text. How many
are regular? How many are irregular?

Yesterday, I slept until 10.30 in the morning and I


stayed at home all day. First, I did my homework.
Then two of my friends came round and we
watched a film. We really loved it. At dinner time,
we rang the local Italian restaurant and they
brought us some pizza. We ate it in front of the TV.
We had a great time!
