1. Course description: Understand of essential internet protocols.
2. Define computer networks protocols and describe their purpose.
3. Switching concepts.
4. Describe routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF and BGP.
5. Describe multitasking and multicasting routing protocols.
6. Describe application protocols such as DNS, DHCP, FTP and HTTP.

7. Explain network design and describe the various network topologies.


8. Discuss network protocols and network software.
9. Discuss wide area networks.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

Have a good understanding of the OSI Reference Model and in particular have a good
knowledge of Layers 1-7. Analyze the requirements for a given organizational structure
and select the most appropriate networking architecture and technologies. Specify and
identify deficiencies in existing protocols, and then go onto formulate new and better
protocols. Have a working knowledge of datagram and internet socket programming
