COMMUNITY Health RESOURCES
 Resources are the means needed to achieve the
predetermined goals. Basically examples of resources are
man , money , material .

 Community Health resources are the means available in


the community to perform the certain function with in the
community . Example of community resources are
 Manpower,
 Money(budgets/funds)
 Materials
 technology etc
Importance of community health
resources

Cost effective and affordable:


 The resources which are available with in the
community cost relatively low.

 It will be affordable for both the healthcare


organization and community people.
Easy accessible :
 The community resource will be easily
available .

 It does not need long time to collect.

 It is accessible in term of distance , time and cost.

 Accessible in term of distance means found


within the working area, in term of time means
takes shorter duration to gather and in term of cost
means affordable.
INCREASE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN
COMMUNITY HEALTH :

 local resources and local technology are used,.

 Thus it increases community involvement in


community health programs.

 It will help to develop ownership felling in


community people.
MAINTAINS SUSTAINABILITY OF HEALTH
PROGRAM:

 If local resources are used people living in the


community are well oriented.

 Thus they run the program in the absence of external


people also.

 It helps to maintain sustainability.


COMMUNITY EMPOWEREMENT(GIVING
POWER AND STATUS):

 High mobilization of community resources and


community people will increase capacity of
community people.

 They can develop capacity to identify the local


resources and mobilize them.

 Thus self help mechanism will develop which


empowers them for community development.
LOCAL COMMUNITY
RESOURCES
FAMILY :
 Family is the unit of community and community
health services .

 The family is the most important locus of health


decision and action in personal care.
 The family is effective and available channels for
much of the community health efforts.

 The community health workers reach community


through the contact with the families.

 Improved community health is realized only


through improved health of family.
TRADITIONAL BIRTH ATTENDANT

 Traditional Birth Attendant are the persons who assist


mother during child birth.

 Their primary goal is to combat with maternal and


neonatal mortality.

 To are committed to prevent high risk pregnancies, assist


in conducting delivery and provide care to new born and
referral services for high risk and emergency cases.

 They also discuss with mother about safe motherhood


and family planning.
 TBAs are provided with a safe deliver kit and
condoms ,iron tablets and IEC (Information ,
Education and Communication ) materials .

 They are provided by different trainings like


identification and prevention of STDs and
AIDS ,neonatal care , safe motherhood ,
reproductive health , management of obstetric
emergency etc .
FEMALE COMMUNITY HEALTH
VOLUNTEERS (FCHV)
 To develop community involvement in primary
health care and to promote community
participation in health , Government of Nepal
initiated the Female Community Health Volunteer
Program.

 FCHVs are the resource persons regarding health


in a community.

 They often are called as community health


volunteers.
 They have received a basic training on primary
health components.

 They mainly work on maternal and child health


issues.

 Their roles are mainly focused on education of the


community people for the promotion of safe
motherhood , child health , family planning and
other health services.
 FCHV plays a role bridge in between community
and the government health institutions

 They are the key person regarding health care in a


community. They also facilitate the community
health development program by providing
information regarding health issue of the
community . They can mobilize the local rural
development programs.
POLITICAL LEADERS :
 Leadership is a process of guiding a group of people
to reach to the common goal.

 Leaders are chosen from the community and by the


community.

 The leaders guides the people to analyze their situation


and define possible solutions.

 They can arrange an environment where people could


be comfortable and systematically communicate with
each other towards resolving an issue or problems.
POLITICAL LEADERS :

 They are the decision maker and planner of the


community.

 They could gather people for the program purpose.


They can play a role to mobilize the community
people
 As they are motivated for development of the
community, they are also one of the stakeholders of
the community development programs.

 They are the representative of community and


playa a role of mediator or bridge between the
external agency and the community.

 They are important resources of the community.


COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS (CBO'S)
 Community based organizations (CBO's) are nonprofit groups
that work at a local level to improve life of community people .

 The focus is to build all streams of - health care, environment,


quality of education, access to technology, access to
information for the disabled etc.

 CBO's are typically, and almost necessarily, staffed by local


members

 Besides being connected geographically, the only link between


staff members and their interests is often the desire and
willingness to help.

NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION
 Nongovernmental organization (NGO), voluntary
group of individuals or organizations, usually
not affiliated with any government, that is formed to
provide services

 The issues addressed by NGOs include


(e.g., human rights, environmental protection,
disaster relief, education and health), and the scope
of their activities may be local, national, or
international.
