Non-uniform MTM cells – Fabry-Perot Gain Enhancement
Fabry-Perot Resonant Antenna Cavity
When the resonance condition is satisfied, the wave coming out of the cavity will be in
phase, and then bidirectional high-gain radiation is achieved. FSS structure as the partially
reflecting surface (PRS) of FP resonator antenna to improve the gain of antenna.

The PRS reflection phase can be expressed as:

φPRS = 4πh f /c +2Nπ-φGND, N = 0, ±1, ±2

≥ 2ʎo

Example of the unit cell

Phase response of a typical PRS: (a) Narrowband operation and (b) broadband operation Simulated reflection phase and magnitude of the proposed PRS using SRM
model

* FSS-MTM size is suggested ≥ 2ʎo for better gain enhancement ! 7

However, for optimum size –in our case only 0.556λo and 4dB gain achievement is not BAD 12
