    • The term "terrorism" comes from
    French terrorisme, from Latin: terror,
    "great fear", "dread", related to the
    Latin verb terrere, "to frighten".
    • The use of violence or of the threat of
    violence in the pursuit of political
    objectives
    India and Terrorism
    India is a victim of Islamic Terrorism on a very large scale.
    Supported by Pakistan which then acts as a victim of terrorism as well.
    Supports terrorist groups like JeM, LeT and many more.
    Carried attacks like the parliament attack, 26/11.
     Other terrorist groups as well – tribal groups, Khalistan supporters etc.
     First ever terrorist attack in india - Mandai massacre (by tribals)
    Impact of Terrorism in India
    • Toll on the casualties suffered more than the casualties in the four conventional wars fought by
    India.
    • India has lost two leaders to terrorist attacks, in each case creating a leadership crisis
    • Increase in budget on agencies involved in fighting terrorism is 2600 per cent since 1980s
    • The 1993 Mumbai blasts triggered communal onslaught on the Muslim population of the city
    • Undermining of democratic values and democratic institutions.
