As a time of celebration marked by special observances
Philippines is rich in festivals.
Colorful and various festivities are
annually celebrated, either for religious
purposes or for showcasing each city’s
main livelihood.

 Month-long annual celebration
 Means “season of blooming”
 Held every February as tribute to city’s flower and as a
way to rise from the devastation in the 1990 Luzon
earthquake

 First celebrated in 1995

 made of recycled soft drinks bottles, leaves, colored paper,

 Males wore G-strings for their performance called

 Vibrant street dancing, colorful costumes, and lively
music
 Costumes are made of indigenous materials and the black
paint in the face represent as “Ati”

 “Iloilo Ati-atihan”
 Contest started in 1969, participated by four (4) tribes
 Became cultural entertainment in 1977
 “dagyang” meaning revelry or merry making of the
people
 “Tourism of the Year” from 2006-2008

 Serves as one of the event’s centerpieces
 Consist of headdress
 Made of feathers, beads, and other embellishment and
sometimes, body suit with designs inspired by indigenous
patterns and colors.
