What is meant by formal letter?

A formal letter is a professional letter, which is written


in formal language, in a prescribed format and in the
stipulated format. This letter is mainly used for
professional communication.

What is semi-formal letter?

A semi-formal letter is one that is more neutral in


style (neither formal nor informal) and one you
may choose to write if you have to: write a letter
to someone you know about something negative
(e.g. an apology to a neighbor)
The semi-formal letter follows the same pattern
as the formal letter.
What is an informal letter?

An informal letter is the type of letter you would


write to someone you know, for example a friend
or family member. They're written in a style that
is more friendly and familiar
