Causes of Bearing Damages
Improper Lubrication
• Major caused of bearing failure
• Too much or little lubricant
• Using wrong lubricant
• Incorrect lubrication intervals
• Using old and deteriorated grease or oils
• Water contamination
Seal Selection and Maintenance
(Contamination)
• Proper sealing is critical against contamination in keeping lubricant in
play.
• Use seals that will withstand environmental/operating conditions
• Inspect for leaks and replace damaged seals quickly
• Used caution when using water, steam or compressed-air sprays when
cleaning equipment. Seals can’t withstand up to steam or high pressured
sprays that may lead to damage and contamination.
Overload
• Operated beyond their rated design limits for load, speed and temperature.
• Shortens bearing life
• Overheating
Improper Handling (Storage
• Improper mounting and misalignment
• Corrosion
• Handling removing and installing of bearings
• Stored with protective coating in anticorrosive wrapping
• Vibration free, dry, temperature and humidity steady
