URAP
Urap is one of the oldest vegetable-based cuisines that continues to exist today. Urap itself is usually
defined as “a dish of boiled vegetables such as spinach, long beans, cassava leaves, cabbage leaves, bean
sprouts, carrots, etc. Mixed with spices from grated coconut.
In Java, vegetable urap is present in everyday dishes. Urap rice is usually used as a breakfast menu in the
morning. Jogjakarta's vegetable urap was even included in the list of 30 Indonesian Traditional Culinary
Icons set by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Maria Elka Pangestu, at the end of 2012.
The types of vegetables in the urap are not chosen just like that because each vegetable also contains a
certain symbol. Each vegetable has its own philosophical meaning.
1. Like spinach, it is a vegetable that symbolizes a safe and peaceful life (Ayem tentrem)
2. Bean sprouts, are small vegetables that contain the meaning of high creativity. Only someone with
high creativity, can succeed in his life.
3. As for the long beans, it must be present whole, without being cut. It means that humans always
think long before acting, other than that as a symbol of long life.
NASI URAP
Nasi Urap is also one of the dishes in a sacred
event in Javanese culture.
For example
1. a 7-month event for someone who is
pregnant,
2. a celebration held when the baby is five
days old,
3. people who want to enter a new home,
4. and people who are recovering from
illness.
that's the history of urap, not only serving
food, but also meaning lessons so that humans
live a wiser life
INGREDIENTS AND METHOD
MAKING OF URAP
Ingredient : How to make vegetable urap :
1. Long beans, Spinach, to taste 1. Wash the vegetables. Cut to taste. Steam or boil with a
little water so that when the vegetables are cooked, the
