What is APA

 APA is the style of documentation of sources used by the American

Psychological Association.
 This form of writing research papers is used mainly in the social sciences, like
psychology, anthropology, sociology, as well as education and other fields.
APA (American Psychological Association)

In October 2019, the American Psychological Association (APA) introduced the

7th edition of the APA Publication Manual.
In this presentation, we provide an overview of the elements of a paper,
including how to structure, format, and organize them.
Main Paper elements
 Title Page
 Abstract
 Text(Body)
 References
Title Page
(Student-Specific Guidelines)
 Title of the paper
 Name of each author of the paper
 Affiliation for each author, typically the university attended
 Course number and name for which the paper is being submitted
 instructor name
 Assignment due date, written in the month, date, and year format
used in your country
 Page number
Abstract

 On the first line of the abstract page, center and bold the word “Abstract” (no
italics, underlining, or quotation marks).
 Beginning with the next line, write a concise summary of the key points of
your research. (Do not indent.)
 Your abstract should contain at least your research topic, research questions,
participants, methods, results, data analysis, and conclusions.
 Your abstract should be a single paragraph, double-spaced. Your abstract
should typically be no more than 250 words.
 You may also want to list keywords from your paper in your abstract.
type Keywords: (italicized), and then list your keywords
Text (Body)
Most papers include an introduction that addresses the importance of
the work, contextualizes the work within the existing literature, and
states the aims of the work.
The paper should include paragraphs or sections explaining the main
premises of the paper.
 A Quantitative research paper typically includes sections called
Method, Results, and Discussion.
References

On the APA reference page, list all the sources that you’ve
cited in paper. The list starts on a new page right after the body
text.
Place the section label “References” in bold at the top of the
page (centered).
 Order the references alphabetically.
 Double-space all text.
 Apply a hanging indent of 0.5 inches.
Footnotes
You can use footnotes in APA 7 to:
• Give additional information
• Provide copyright attribution
• A footnote is a brief note that provides additional content or copyright
attribution.
• They should not include complicated, irrelevant, or nonessential
information. Because they can be distracting to readers.
Appendices

o Sometimes authors wish to include material that supplements the paper’s

content
o Such material can often be included in an appendix.
o Give each appendix a label and a title. If a paper has one appendix, label it
“Appendix”; if a paper has more than one appendix, label each appendix with a
capital letter (e.g., “Appendix A,” “Appendix B”) in the order in which it is
mentioned in the text.
