Materials
Material Sourcing is an important factor in determining the quality of the finished product.
Understanding the project and deciding the right kind of material is essential to ensure the
durability, aesthetics and budget of the project. Common raw materials used in projects are
CARPENTRY
Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) sheets usually are available in 8ft x 4ft sizes with thickness
ranging from 3mm to 25mm. Common varieties of this material includes

Fire Retardant Moisture Retardant Laminated MDF

MDF MDF
Other materials used in carpentry
Hardwood Plywood Laminates

Veneer Corian Glass

ACRYLIC
With superior resistance to discoloration, impact, and chemicals, acrylic plexiglass sheet is
ideal for any application and is a durable alternative to glass. Commonly available as sheets,
rods and tubes in a variety of sizes.
Acrylic tubes
Clear Acrylic Colored Acrylic Acrylic rods

Polycarbonate
METALS
The most cost effective solution to fabricating furniture in mass production, couples with the advantage of
durability and low maintenance for prolonged usage. Limitations include certain design requirements, often
needing protective coating, weight and expensive to produce low quantities among others.
Mild Steel Mild Steel Aluminium Aluminium
Profiles

Brass Metal Rods Pipes & tubes

Coating
Coatings are applied to raw materials to improve aesthetics and/or provide a protective
coating to ensure durability of the raw material. Various techniques include
Electroplating Spray Painting Water Paint

Powder coating Lacquer coating

Electricals
Lighting is an important aspect of retail furniture, as it helps highlight products and create an appealing
ambiance. LED strip lights, recessed lighting, or integrated spotlights can be incorporated into display
cases, shelves, or signage to showcase merchandise effectively.

Printing
There are various printing techniques used to achieve the desired output expected by the client,
each of which varies in quality, timeline and budget. Some commonly used techniques in the
industry are:
Commercial Offset
Widely used printing technique in which the inked image on a printing plate is printed on a rubber
Printing
cylinder and then transferred (i.e., offset) to paper or other material.
• Very high quality
• Cost Effective in
large quantities
• Wide variety of
paper available
• Special processes
• Turnaround speed
is slower.
• Max size: 100x70
Printing
Digital Printing
Digital printing prints digital-based images directly onto a variety of substrates. There is no need
for a printing plate, unlike offset printing.

• High quality
• Cost Effective in
small quantities
• limited variety of
paper available
• Limited number
of special
processes
• Quick turnaround
• Max size: A3
Printing
Digital Large Format Printing
Ideal to brand large areas, this type of printing uses inkjet technology to get high quality output

• Very high quality

• Cost is per sqm
• Substrates include vinyl
stickers, banners, fabric
• No special process
• Quick turnaround
• Large sizes possible
Printing
UV Printing
Also known as ultraviolet printing, UV printing is a printing technique that uses UV curing ink to
print on a wide variety of materials. An incredibly versatile printing process that is fast, efficient
and incredibly effective.

• High quality, although quality

depends on the substrate on which
printing is done
• Highly durable & long lasting
• Cost is per sqm
• Wide variety of substrates
• Can create 3d texture effects with
multiple passes
• Quick turnaround
Manufacturing & Assembling
The raw materials undergo preparation processes to make
them suitable for manufacturing. This step may involve
cutting, shaping, or forming the materials into specific
sizes or dimensions. For e.g.: in metal fabrication, cutting
processes like shearing, sawing, or laser cutting are
employed to shape metal sheets as required.
Coating of the raw manufactured unit is also done
involving processes like painting, powder coating,
cladding, branding using printed materials, etc
Manufactured units are assembled inhouse to
complete the product to verify the structural and
functional aspect and at the same time electrical
fittings are also added as needed.
Finally QC check is done to ensure the quality.
Quality Control & Packing
Quality control is a crucial aspect of the manufacturing
process that aims to ensure that products meet specific
standards, comply with regulatory requirements, and
satisfy customer expectations.
If any non-conformities or defects are identified
during the quality control process, appropriate
corrective actions are initiated. This involves
investigating the root cause of the issue, implementing
necessary corrections, and preventing its recurrence.

Once the QC procedure is completed, items

are packed as per delivery requirements
shared by the client and made ready for the
logistics team to
Delivery & Installation
Once the display elements are ready, they are installed
and set up in the retail environment. This stage requires
careful attention to detail and precision to ensure that the
displays are arranged according to the planned design.
Lighting and other technical aspects are also addressed
during installation.
Again a complete QC check is conducted on site
after installing the furniture to ensure complete
functionality and quality has been achieved.
Regular assessments can be conducted to ensure
that the displays are effective and appealing to
customers.
Conclusion
Throughout the visual merchandising production process,
collaboration and communication between visual
merchandisers, store managers, designers, and production
teams are crucial to achieving the desired results.
Attention should be given to the overall aesthetics, brand
consistency, product visibility, and creating an engaging
shopping experience for customers.
