Context for WWI

 Germany – German Confederation

 Triple Alliance: UK, France and
Russia. (USA and Italy join later)
 Triple Entente: Germany, Austria
Hungary and Italy (Changes
sides).

 Invasion of other states (Russian
Empire)
 Bosnia and Herzegovina
 Germany provokes the UK
through their African colonies.

The war itself

 This was the single biggest


military conflict in history at
the time.
 Most of the War was filled with
ultimatums and threats to
other countries.
 New weapons: Aircrafts,
Mustard gas, Tanks.
 Adolf Hitler participated and
almost fell to the chemicals.
 The Zimmermann Telegram
“Remember Lusitania”

 One of the things that


forced the US into WWI
was the sinking of
Lusitania.
 Entering WWI would be
the catalyst for the US
to become the next
Hegemon.
Aftermath: The Peace of Versalles

 “The war started because the countries followed their treaties”


 Fall of Lusitania and entering of USA
 Germany found completely guilty and finned for millions of dollars to cover
damages and stripped from its territory (Germany was not included in the
agreement).

 Is it possible to have peace without violence?
