public and private schools nationwide, with a focus on
enhancing learners' academic performance, addressing
learning gaps in reading proficiency, and strengthening
Values, Health, and Peace Education. This includes promoting
the National Reading Program activities and values education
on designated Fridays to improve reading skills, character

CURRICULUM INTEGRATION
Integrating the curriculum into Catch-Up
Fridays can be an effective way to reinforce
and extend learning. By aligning the
activities on these days with the core
curriculum, students have the opportunity to
revisit and deepen their understanding of
important concepts. This approach can also
provide additional support for students who
may need extra help in certain subjects.

CURRICULUM INTEGRATION STRATEGIES

SUGGESTED STRATEIGIES FOR
READING
The National Reading Program's two-
pronged approach of Reading Intervention and
Reading Enhancement is a comprehensive
strategy to address the diverse reading needs of
learners.
(Enclosure No. 2 to DepEd Memorandum No. , s. 2024)
SUGGESTED STRATEIGIES FOR
READING
1. Reading Intervention: This aspect of the program focuses
on providing targeted support for students who may be
struggling with reading. It typically involves personalized
instruction, small group activities, and individualized
interventions to help students improve their reading skills. By
identifying specific areas of need, such as fluency,
comprehension, or phonics, educators can tailor interventions
to meet each student's requirements.

2. Reading Enhancement: On the other hand, Reading
Enhancement aims to extend and enrich the reading
experiences of proficient readers. This component of the
program may involve advanced literature exploration,
critical analysis, creative writing projects, and discussions
aimed at deepening understanding and fostering a love for
reading.

SUGGESTED STRATEIGIES FOR
READING
1. Drop Everything and Read (DEAR): Provides
learners with the opportunity to independently and silently
read a book of their choice for a short period, fostering a
habit of reading without interruptions or quizzes.

2. Teacher Read-Aloud: Allows learners the choice of

books for enjoyment, with teachers recommending texts
that align with students' existing interests or introducing
them to new topics or genres they may enjoy.
SUGGESTED STRATEIGIES FOR
READING
3. Book Talk: Offers learners the chance to share,
recommend, and discuss books they have read in an
encouraging and safe environment, promoting intimate
and personalized conversations about literature.

4. Choral Reading: Involves collective reading of a

carefully selected text, with the teacher guiding the
experience and all learners participating by reading the
story aloud together in unison.
SUGGESTED STRATEIGIES FOR
READING
5. Partner Reading: Engages learners in paired reading
activities, allowing for adjustments based on reading
abilities and special needs, while establishing clear routines
for how learners engage with each other during the activity.

6. Read-a-thon: Integrates 10 to 15-minute segments into

language class periods for volunteer learners to retell
stories or offer oral reading interpretations, potentially
assessing performance using rubrics centered on
storytelling accuracy and expression.
SUGGESTED STRATEGIES FOR
GMRC AND VALUES EDUCATION
The suggested strategies for GMRC and Values Education
through "Catch-up Fridays" aim to nurture students' character
alongside academic achievement, in line with the idea that both
are interconnected. This approach integrates values into everyday
life and encourages reflective thinking, drawing from educational
theories such as Gardner's multiple intelligences, Dewey's
reflective learning concept, and Vygotsky's social development
theory

SUGGESSTED STRATEGIES FOR
HEALTH EDUCATION
The suggested strategies for Health Education's Catch-up
Fridays activities offer an innovative approach to reinforcing vital
health concepts. By incorporating exercises, games, dancing, and
mindfulness activities, students can engage in a dynamic learning
experience that promotes physical, social, and mental well-being.
Focusing on themes such as disease prevention, mental health,
sexual and reproductive health, and drug education, these
strategies aim to empower students to lead healthy and fulfilling
lives while creating a positive and supportive learning
environment.
