DISTANCE LEARNING
INTRODUCTION

• Distance education is an alternative mode for receiving the highest


professional and technical education which distinguishes from
conventional campus based mode of learning.
• Distance education is a formal educational process in which
majority of the instruction occurs when student and instructor are
not in same place.
DEFINITION

Distance education , also called distance learning , is the education of students


Who may not always be physically present at a school. Traditionally, this
usually involved correspondence courses wherein the student corresponded
with the school via mail, Today , It involves online education.

Online distance education also meets the needs of students who prefer more
independence in their learning. ( Leasure, Davis, and Thievon,2000)
OBJECTIVES:
• To advance and disseminate learning and knowledge by a diversity of means.
• To provide a second opportunity to study to those who missed such an
opportunity earlier.
• There is shortage of scientific and technical manpower in some countries and
the tradition system is unable to cope with the demand
• To improve the quality and standarad of education
• It reduces pressure of the secondary education students.
• It facilitate the provision of our constitution ie equalization of education
opportunity.
