History

• Around two millions of years ago

• Used for cooking, heating, and protection from


wild animals

• Fires cause many injuries and deaths


• Fires cause millions of dollars in damages

3. Classes of fires
1) Class A fires involve solid materials such as wood, paper,
rubber, plastic and cloth.

2) Class B fires involve flammable or combustible liquids, such


as petrol, oil and paint.

3) Class C fires involve flammable gases, such as propane,


butane and methane.

4) Class D fires involve flammable metals, such as potassium,


aluminum and titanium.

5) Class E fires involve electrical fires.

6) Class F cooking fires


4. What to use?

1) Class A fires- Best to use water

2) Class B fires- Powder CO2 Foam

3) Class C fires- Powder CO2

4) Class D fires- Special sort of powder

5) Class E fires- Powder CO2. Water and foam dangerous!!!!

6) Class F - specialy designed soap foam


5. In case of fire

1) If the alarm is on evacuate


2) Never assume it’s a drill
3) Never use an elevator
4) Follow escape routes
5)Stay calm
6. How to use a fire extinguisher
1) Read the label - using a wrong
extinguisher can be life threatening!
2) Portable fire extinguishers are designed
to fight smaller, contained fires
3) If you cannot extinguish a fire after 30
seconds, you should stop, shut the door, and
escape to safety
7. Useful tips

• Caught in smoke- Stay close to the floor and crawl to the nearest
exit
• If you come across a door that’s hot do not open it, that can be the
only thing between you and fire
• Trapped in a room- keep the doors closed call for help
• If you or your clothes catch on fire do not run it gives the fire more
oxygen, instead you should 1.stop 2.drop and 3.roll
