TALAANDIG

TALAANDIG Talaandig or People of the slopes are one of the indigenous
groups in the Province of Bukidnon. They believe in existence
of the highest god called Magbabaya and spirits who guard and
protect nature. The Talaandig population is roughly estimated to
be at about 100,000 people or more. The members of the group
are found in barangays and municipalities surrounding the
mountain of Kitanglad, the historic domain of the Talaandig
people.
Belief System

The Talaandig people believe in the existence of Magbabaya, the


highest God, and the spirits who protect nature. This belief is
reflected in their social, economic, and political practices. They
perform rituals for various purposes, such as establishing a farm,
hunting, and performing the Kaliga ceremony. The Talaandig also
protect their houses through various guards, including Dadagunan
hu Suguy, Anilaw ha Sumagda, Sinyuda Kahibunan, Diwata ha
Manilib, and Diwata Pinatanlay. The belief in the human soul is
also evident in the Panlang pregnancy ritual.
Dugso

and dance where
stomping of feet awaken
and invite the caretaker
spirits of the
environment.
Indigenous Knowledge and Oral Traditions

The Talaandig learning system is represented through oral


traditions like Nanangen, Ulaging, sala, and Idangdang Limbay.
Gugud is a sacred historical narrative, Barbat recalls stories,
Sampitan refers to reference stories, Basahan refers to sayings,
Batasan is a customary law, and Antuka is a brain twister.

emotions and sportsmanship.
