Background of The Company
– SUR Construction P.L.C is established by the Endowment Fund for the Rehabilitation of
Tigray (EFFORT) in 1992 with an initial capital of Birr 108 million as a General Contractor -
Grade one (GC-1).
–SUR is the owner of about 1,000 heavy & light duty construction machinery and plants with
over 1,500 permanent and contract employees and about 6,000 daily laborers.
–SUR has its own six stores head office building in Addis Ababa and a modern workshop and
training center at the branch office in Mekelle.
–Currently, SUR is executing 12 projects all over the country worth of around Birr 2
billion and has achieved an annual turnover of more than Birr 690 Million.
– Maintenance is All actions appropriate for retaining an item/part/equipment in,
or restoring it to, a given condition. So, our question basically forward to
preventive maintenance in sur construction. Before we go to the deep,
Preventive maintenance: All actions carried out on a planned, periodic, and
specific schedule to keep an item/equipment in stated working condition
through the process of checking and reconditioning. These actions are
precautionary steps undertaken to forestall or lower the probability of failures
or an unacceptable level of degradation in later service, rather than correcting
them after they occur. they regulate all their employee and not for the
responsible for PM activity and absenteeism case it will have penalty of 20% to
the wage.
Vision of the company
o The company is committed to be the center of excellence for the local
construction industries and to be one of the leading construction companies
which are capable of great understanding and strongly committed to individual
creativity and initiative team works.

Mission of the company

– Have an extra ordinary role in supporting the economic development endeavor of
the nation.
– Provide efficient and effective construction services and meet customers’
expectation to higher level.
objective
General objective
– The general aim of this project is to develop a scheduling preventive maintenance
frequency of two different machine(truck).
Specific objective
– To identities the activity of preventive maintenance
– To identities the activity Preventive maintenance for two different machines(trucks)
– To know the number of personnel in preventive maintenance
– To know the manufacture service manual of the two different machines(trucks)
– To define the equipment /to/ used during activity take part
Scope of study
o Our project carried in Sur construction plc. About preventive maintenance.
o Our project only restricted to two machines (trucks)
o We are only deal with the schedule frequency of PM on each truck
o We are unable to check for the need of PM to the two-trucks due to limitation
of data
Significance of the project
– The advantage the project to understand to practice to schedule the Preventive
maintenance.
– The purpose of the study also to know the step while schedule preventive
maintenance.
Methodology
– Our project on preventive maintenance is conducted on sur construction plc.
– While we collect the data, we need we follow both the primary and secondary
source of data
– Through interview with truck and earth moving maintenance manger we obtain
the following information.
– The activity commonly practiced in sur construction while they apply the
preventive maintenance are list below.
– We analyze our collected data using excel (chart)
All the elements of the PM is conducted in sur construction
– At this company they use the following tool/equipment while the practice the
preventive maintenance program. Those are

Fuel gauge Torque wrench

blower
meter
– Finally, while ask the maintenance manager they use the work force for PM
program as follow
1. Driver(operator)
2. maintenance manager
3. PM engineer
4. technician (mechanic)
5. Inspector.
– in PM implementing at sur construction plc the techniques, operators,
inspector and maintenance head have their responsibility on it.

– The secondary method we use to get the data by asking to manage to give us
historical status of equipment in PM. The data we get from the manager is list
to the next slide

–N.B – at the schedule we take sample from the given
–For both the two machines in order to approve the PM practice there are
personnel
 Inspector
 PM engineer
 Finally, it approved by maintenance head manager
o The result show briefly that all the activities of both the two machines at what
time interval is carried PM activities. There is also respective operators and
technician and their higher title personnel to approve the maintenance.
Conclusion
–We infer that our project schedules the frequency of the PM activities using the
collected data. This project is help follow to apply PM activities in dozer and
sinotruck.it helpful for the personnel which participate in maintenance of the two
machines.
Recommendation
–The actual result we found is not realistic. Because it has some limitation on data.
In our level, preparing yearly PM schedules is difficult due to the need of
experiencing and full of information on the ob. So, any who interested and wonder
to develop, he/she can use this project as reference.
