Birth of

Baha'u'llah
2022 Celebration of the Canada Bay Community
205th year
Introduction by MC
Good evening and welcome to Canada Bay’s celebration of the Birth of
Baháʼu'lláh. Mirza Husayn-Ali, who is known to the world by His title, Baha’u’llah,
was born in Tehran, Iran on 12 November, 1817.

Baha’u’llah means “Glory of God” in Arabic and He is the Prophet-Founder of the

Baha’i Faith. The anniversary of the day He was born is celebrated alongside the
Birth of the forerunner of His Revelation, the Bab. These Twin Holy Days are
celebrated annually as one festival where the closely interwoven missions of
these two Divine Luminaries are remembered together.

We will begin with a brief devotional program which aims to celebrate and
commemorate Baháʼu'lláh. This will be followed by dinner.
Before we begin, The Bahai Community of Canada Bay acknowledges the Wangal
clan, one of 29 tribes of the Eora nation and the traditional custodians of this
land. We pay respect to elders past and present and extends this respect to all
Aboriginal people living in or visiting Canada Bay.
Reading 1 - Prayer

In the Name of our Lord, the Most Holy, the Most Great, the
Exalted, the Most Glorious!

Glory be to Thee, O Thou Who art the Lord of all beings and the
Ultimate Aim of all creation! I testify with the tongue of both
mine inner and outer being that Thou hast revealed and
manifested Thyself, that Thou hast sent down Thy verses and
demonstrated Thy proofs, and that Thou art independent of
anyone besides Thee and sanctified above all else except Thyself.
I ask Thee, by the glory of Thy Cause and the power of Thy Word,
graciously to assist them that have arisen to discharge what hath
been enjoined upon them in Thy Book, and to perform that
whereby the fragrance of Thine acceptance may be shed abroad.
Thou, verily, art the Powerful, the Gracious, the Forgiving, the
Bountiful.
– Baha’u’llah
Reading 2 - Writings

This is the Day in which God’s most excellent favours have been
poured out upon men, the Day in which His most mighty grace hath
been infused into all created things. It is incumbent upon all the
peoples of the world to reconcile their differences, and, with perfect
unity and peace, abide beneath the shadow of the Tree of His care
and loving-kindness. It behoveth them to cleave to whatsoever will,
in this Day, be conducive to the exaltation of their stations, and to
the promotion of their best interests….

Reading 4 – Summary of
Bahá’u’lláh
At dawn, on the second day of the Islamic Year, on 12 November 1817, Bahá’u’lláh’s mother Khadijih Khanum
gave birth to the eldest of her surviving sons.

At that very same moment, Shaykh Ahmad, who announced the coming of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh, was
found fallen upon his face, repeating in wrapt devotion the words, ‘God is Great!’ and saying, ‘That which I
have been announcing to you is now revealed. At this very hour the light of the Promised One has broken,
and is shedding illumination upon the world.’
From His birth, Bahá’u’lláh never cried, always remaining in a most remarkable state of peacefulness. His
mother was completely astonished, and before long it became obvious to everyone around, that her Child
was entirely different from other children.

Bahá’u’lláh was brought up on the outskirts of Tihran, but most summers were spent in His father’s great
mansion in their ancestral village of Takur, the sea.
Bahá’u’lláh as a child displayed a purity of character quite extraordinary, and a wonderful, innate wisdom and
knowledge. He greatly loved outdoor life, spending most of His time in the garden or fields.
Extremely kind and generous, He had an incredible power of attraction, which was felt by all. People always
crowded around Him, children were devoted to Him, and the ministers and people of the Court would gather
about Him.
As He grew up, Bahá’u’lláh desired no schooling. He received a little customary education at home, in riding,
using a sword or gun, good manners, calligraphy, poetries, and the ability to read out the words of the Qur’an.
Despite a lack education, Bahá’u’lláh shone forth in wisdom and ability, and all who knew Bahá’u’lláh were
astonished. It was usual for them to say, that such a child will not live beyond maturity.
