BASIC ELECTRONICS 1
What is a resistor?
A resistor is a two-terminal passive device that limits the flow of electrical current in an
electronic circuit.
What is resistance?
Resistance is the ability of the resistor to limit the flow of electrical current, measured in
ohms (Ω).

RESISTORS
What to know when buying resistors?
1. Resistance – can be read using the first three colors of the color code or by its markings
2. Power Rating – The bigger the size, the higher power rating. It means that higher current or
temperature
can be handled by the resistor.
3. Tolerance – The last color in the color code. This is used if in case the resistor value of the original
component is not available in the market. It is important because it affects the slew rate of the
resistor, which can make it difficult to control the resistor’s performance. Slew rate determines
the amount of current that can be delivered to a device. The higher the slew rate, the higher the
current.
