The Alhambra
• The Alhambra is a palace in Spain
• People in Spain started to build the Alhambra
about 800 years ago
• Today it’s most popular place in Spain for
tourists
• It has beautiful courtyards with gardens and
fountains, a towers and high walls
History of the Alhambra
• Many different kings lived there
• Many people wrote stories and songs about
Alhambra
• The French Empror and Napoleon tried to
destroy it, but they couldn’t
Interesting things about the Alhambra
• They used to call the Alhambra a city and a
castle
• The Alhambra looks grey at night and gold
when it’s sunny
• The Alhambra in english means ‘red castle’
• Wars and earthquake destroyed some parts of
the Alhambra
• In 1828 Spanish people started to build the
broken parts again
Chichen Itza
CHICHEN ITZA
Chichen Itza
• Chichen Itza is in Mexico and was a big deal for the
Mayan people from the 7th to the 10th century.
• About 1,600 years ago, the Mayan people in Mexico
started
to build a new city.
• They built it around water from under the ground, so
they called the city Chichen Itza.
• The name means ,,the mouth of the well,,
• Water was very important in this dry place.
• The first people in Chichen ltza built many
temples for their rain god Chaac.
• Later, the city grow bigger and richer. Then
people built fantastic piramids and temples for
their god Kukulkan.
• The most famous pyramid is the Temple of
Kukulkan
Important buildings
• The Pyramid of Kukulcan is like a giant staircase with 365 steps, showing
off the Maya calendar. It looks like a snake!
• The Great Ball Court is huge, and they played a special game there. The
winners were heroes, but sometimes they did weird ceremonies, even
sacrifices.
• The Sacred Cenote is a big hole where they threw in things like gold and
sometimes people.
• The Temple of the Warriors is a fancy place with columns and statues.
