According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency


(PDEA), this is the national drug situation. There were
reports about poly drug users, taking drugs for more than
six years. According to these report, 54.78% of drug users
were single, 36.74% were unemployed, majority were only
able to finish high school. There were more male users than
female with a ratio of 9:1 ranging to 20-29 years age
bracket. Illegal drug trafficking is by far the most prevalent
activity in the country.
Definition of Terms
• Drugs – any of the substances and/or chemical which
when taken into the body can cause a physical or
emotional change in a person.
• Drug use – is taking a medicine properly and in its
correct dosage.
• Drug misuse – using drugs improperly, incoherent or
inconsistent use of a drug or substance not following
the prescribed dosage and/or frequency of use.
Definition of Terms
• Drug abuse – the taking of the substance for non-medical
intentions. Drug or substance abuse incudes use of any illegal
drug or the misuse of any legal drug or other psychoactive
substance, overuse, multiple use, and use of a drug in
combination with alcohol or other drugs.
• Drug dependence – pertains to a group of physiological,
behavioral, and cognitive phenomena of variable intensity in
which the drug user craves for a strong desire to take the
substance. They often try to quit but using drugs but they
usually fail.
Definition of Terms
• Drug tolerance – the condition of the body to adapt to the
different effects of substances to the body which makes the
body require for an even greater amount of the substance
to experience the same physiological, mental, and physical
effects experienced when taking the last dosage.
• Drugs of abuse – there are drugs and/or substances
commonly abused by users. In the Philippines, the three
common drugs of abuse are shabu (methamphetamine),
marijuana, and inhalants (DDB, 2013).

Use Prohibited Drugs
• Those with negative feelings
• Those who cannot resist peer pressure
• Those who are experiencing depression
• Those having difficulty in achieving success in athletics and
others
• Those having immature character disorder
• Those whoare experiencing family disruption and
being reared in a dysfunctional family
Classifications
• Regulated and Controlled
Drugs are those that can only be
bought with the prescription of a
doctor. Sale, distribution,
manufacture, and possession of
these drugs are controlled by the
law. Many of these drugs are
psychoactive drugs or mind –
altering drugs.
Prohibited or Illegal drugs are
forbidden by the law. They have no
medical use and are very dangerous
when used and abused.
Shabu, ecstacy, and
cocaine are examples
of stimulant drugs that
are under prohibited
or illegal drugs. Other
prohibited drugs are
heroin, morphine,
LSD, and marijuana.
Stimulants are drugs that speed
up the work of the central nervous
system. Amphetamines, cocaine,
shabu, and ecstasy are some
examples of stimulants. The use
of these drugs produce behavioral
and psychological effects

Self – confidence
Impaired judgement
Impulsiveness
