MATTER

MATTER
can be classified as
PURE SUBSTANCE AND MIXTURE
PURE SUBSTANCE- Substances are
homogeneous or with uniform composition and
appearance.The same all throughout.
PROPERTIES
COMPOSITION uniform
TEMPERATURE fixed and sharp
MELTING melts completely/ smoothly
BOILING the temperature changes at the start then
it becomes the same
Example: salt, water, Carbon Dioxide,
and Oxygen
Pure substance

COMPOUND
ELEMENTS
- made up of only type of atom
- they cannot be broken down into simpler substances
- Can’t be separated into simpler substances by chemical
or physical means

ELEMENTS
Some elements have one-letter symbols comes from the
first letter of the elements
Boron- B
Nitrogen- N
Fluorine- F
Vanadium- V
Carbon- C
Oxygen-O
Hydrogen- H
Elements essential to
life

COMPOUNDS
- is a substance that contains two or more elements chemically
combined in a fixed proportion
- Compounds can be broken down into simpler substances by
chemical means

Examples:
Carbon Dioxide= Carbon + Oxygen
Potassium Nitrate= Potassium + Nitrogen
ELECTROLYSIS
Example:
water
Ingredients give you a list of the
materials that have been added to
make the food product
MIXTURE- contain 2 or more
components/substances (homogeneous or
heterogeneous
COMPOSITION Not uniform
TEMPERATURE Different at all times
MELTING Has portions that seem be not melting
BOILING Different at all times
Example: pizza, saltwater, pinakbet
