produce from daily activities.
By not regarding these products WASTE TRADE
as waste and just changing our
perspectives, we are able to see WASTE-TO-ENERGY
that they can be so much more
even with little effort. Some of COMPOSTING
the ways which we can manage
waste are listed as follows

UPCYCLING
This is the collection of non-biodegradable waste materials and turning them into
useful things in the environment. For example a used Tyre can be upcycled into a
cushion for a living room or taking bottles and using them as pots for planting.
These wastes when upcycled are perceived to be of greater quality, bringing artistic
value and environmental value.

Benefits of Upcycling to the
Environment

• It helps in waste management: Upcycling reduces the disposal of

non-biodegradable waste. If many people start upcycling, there
will be very limited waste to be disposed of.
• It keeps the environment pristine: When less waste is disposed of,
the environment will not suffer in turn and it will become cleaner
and more attractive.
• It helps conserve energy: upcycling requires less energy compared
to the production of other materials. By reusing existing
materials, upcycling reduces the energy consumption and
greenhouse gas emissions caused by the manufacturing of these
other materials.

Examples/Situations to Upcycle

T- S H I RT T O T E B A G S WINE CORK COASTERS

• T-shirt Tote Bag: Transform old or oversized T- • Collect wine corks and glue them together in a

Summary
We are not far from achieving a
waste-free world, but it requires
taking simple yet crucial steps to
