Fundamentals I
Answer the following computer parts
____________1. Allows you to listen to music and hear sound effects from your computer.
____________ 2. A device that sends and receives computer information over a telephone
line or high-speed cable.
____________ 3. Displays information in visual form, using text and graphics.
____________ 4. Transfers data from a computer onto paper.
____________ 5. Used mainly for typing text into your computer.
____________ 6. Uses lasers to read data.
____________ 7. Can store only a small amount of data.
____________ 8. A small device used to point to and select items on your computer screen.
____________ 9. The core of a computer system.
____________ 10. Can hold massive amounts of information; they usually serve as your
computer's primary means of storage.

INPUT DEVICES
Any peripheral that generates input for
the computer and allow users to enter
information into the computer to be
processed. It convert raw data into format
that the computer can understand and
process.
This unit contains devices with the
help of which we enter data into computer.
This unit makes link between user and
computer. The input devices translate the
human being information into the form
understandable by computer

PROCESSOR
Central Processing Unit
(CPU)
Performing arithmetic , logical operations on data
in order to convert them into useful information.
CPU is considered as the brain of the computer. CPU
perform all types of data processing operations. It stores
data , intermediate results and instructions(program). It
controls the operation of all parts of computer. It acts like
the center or core, processing the data and information it
receives from input devices.
Computer Unit/ Devices
OUTPUT DEVICES
Output unit consists of devices with the help of
which we get the information from computer. This unit is a
link between computer and users. Output devices translate
the computer's output into the form understandable by
users .
Any peripheral device that presents, display, alter or
completes a computation or processing the resulting data
sent to output records after it has left a computer’s system
unit.
Physical equipment which translate the outcome of
the computation and related activities carried out in the
CPU.

STORAGE DEVICES
Devices use to store processes information either in primary or
secondary.
This unit can store instruction, data and intermediate results.
This unit supplies information to the other units of the computer when
needed. Its size affects speed, power and capability. There are two types of
memories in the computer primary memory and secondary memory
Function of Memory Unit are:
1. It stores all the data to be processed and the instructions required for
processing.
2.It stores intermediate results of processing.
3. It stores final results of processing before these results are released to
an output device.
4. All inputs and outputs are transmitted through main memory.
