WHY AMPHIBIOUS
• CLIMATE CHANGES
In the face of climate change, historic communities are becoming more
vulnerable to increasingly frequent storm and flood events. Adapting to
changing water levels requires forward-looking strategies to limit
disastrous impacts on the well-being and cultural heritage of these
communities.
• RISING OF WATER LEVEL
The best strategy for reducing flood water damage is to rise along with
the floodwater. Amphibious houses adapt to rising water levels, they are
very effective in dealing with floods.
3
OBJECTIVE
• In the face of climate change, communities are becoming more
vulnerable to increasingly frequent storm and flood events.
Adapting to changing water levels requires strategies to limit
disastrous impacts. The best strategy for reducing flood water
damage is to rise along with the floodwater. Amphibious houses
adapt to rising water levels, thus being a effective solution.

4
SCOPE
• The aim of this project is to provide light weight building
which rests on land and if flood appears it floats due to the
presence of EPS blocks(expansive polystyrene blocks).

5
INTRODUCTION

6
CONCEPT OF THIS PROJECT
FLOATING BASE
• Technique opted – Concrete EPS system
• Consist of – Expansive Polystyrene core with a thickcore, a
thin coating of concrete on top, stiffness andprotection
provided by concrete side walls.
• Expanded Polystyrene – The material is having 90-95% air but
has strength sufficient to carry abuilding, weight density is 60-
640 kg per cubic meter.

GENERATOR SIZE CALCULATION

• Full load kW = Total amps x supply voltage / 1,000

= 84.75kW
• Reserve capacity = Full load kW x 0.25
Reserve capacity = 84.74kW x 0.25
= 21.185kW
• For 100 percent power,
Generator size = Full load kW + reserve capacity
= 84.75 + 21.185
= 105.935kW

AXIAL FORCE OF STRUCTURE

53
BOUYANCY CHECK
• The total load on the structure = 578.27KN
• Depth of the water is assumed as 6m.
• Thus, the weight of water replaced by the submersed part of the model is equal to the compartment weight submersed in water.
• Total weight of air, which is trapped inside this compartment area, is as follow:
• Total weight of water being replaced by air,= [(4 x 5.85 x 2.73)-(4 x 0.48 x 0.15 x 3)] x 1000 kg/m3
= 63664 kg x 9.81/1000
= 624.54 KN
From the analysis above, it is noted that the total weight of structure of 583.1 KN is lesser than the weight of water replaced by air in
compartment, which is 686.89 KN. Hence, the buoyant force is:
Bouyant Force = (624.54 – 578.27) kN = 46.27 kN
