ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
In the accomplishment of this project successfully, many people have best owned upon me their blessings and
the heart pledged support, this time I am utilizing to thank all the people who have been concerned with project.

Primarily I would thank god for being able to complete this project with success. Then I would like to thank my
principal physics teacher Mr.KULDIP THAKUR, whose valuable guidance has been the ones that helped me
patch this project and make it full proof success his suggestions and his instructions has served as the major
contributor towards the completion of the project.

Then I would like to thank my parents and friends who have helped me with their valuable suggestions and
guidance has been helpful in various phases of the completion of the project.

INTRODUCTION
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
HOOKE'S LAW
EXPERIMENT:
Helical Spring
Objective
To find the force constant of a helical spring by plotting a graph between load
and extension.

Materials required
• A spring
• A rigid support
• Weight hanger
• 50g or 20 g slotted weights
• A vertical wooden scale
• A fine pointer
Helical spring works on the principle of Hooke’s Law. Hooke’s Law states that within the limit
of elasticity, stress applied is directly proportional to the strain produced.

When a load ‘F’ is attached to the free end of a spring, then the spring elongates through a distance
‘l’ .Here ‘l’ is known as the extension produced. According to Hooke’s Law, extension is directly
proportional to the load.
This can be represented as:

where ‘k’ is constant of proportionality. It is called the force constant or the spring constant of the spring.

A graph is drawn with load M in kg wt along X axis and extension, l in metre along the Y axis. The graph is a straight line
whose slope will give the value of spring constant, k .

THEORY
RESULT
The spring constant of the given
spring is 100 g wt per cm.

Learning Outcomes:
• Students understand the principle of Hooke’s
Law.
• They learn about the force constant of a
spring.
• Students understand the relationship between
force applied and extension produced in a spring.
