THAI AND CAMBODIAN SILK

THAI SILK – is fabricated from

cocoons of Thai Silkworms.
KHORAT – the center of the silk

caterpillars on a balanced diet of
mulberry leaves.
Nowadays, the art of Thai silk making
is considered as one of the finest arts in
the world.
Repetition can take the form of an exact
duplication (pattern), a near duplication, or
duplication with variety. Repeating visual
elements such as line, color, shape, texture,
value or image tends to unify the total effect of
art to create the principle of rhythm.
In Cambodia, as early as the first century, the
practice of silk weaving has already been
recorded.
The Cambodians used natural dyes. Usually,
their colors come from insect nests (for red
dye), plants, and varied barks of trees (for
black, blue, green, and yellow dyes).
Cambodian silk is usually
sold domestically.
SAMPOT – wrap skirt
PIDAN – pictorial tapestries
