01 INTRODUCTION

1. SYSTEM IN WHICH THERE IS A CAPABILITY TO CONTROL BI- DIRECTIONAL FLOW OF

ELECTRICAL ENERGY.
2. FLOW OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY IN BETWEEN VEHICLE AND GRID.
3. THE CONCEPT WAS FIRST INTRODUCED BY WILLET COMPTON OF THE DELAWARE
UNIVERSITY. THE INITIAL GOAL OF THE V2G WAS TO PROVIDE PEAK POWER THAT IS THE
ELECTRIC VEHICLE OWNERS CHARGING THEIR CARS IN LOW LOAD WITH LOW
ELECTRIC PRICE AND DISCHARGING THE VEHICLES IN PEAK LOAD WITH HIGHER PRICES
SO THAT THE VEHICLE OWNERS CAN MAKE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF PROFIT FROM
THE PROJECT.
COMPONENT USED
• Smart meter
• Grid connected invertor
• AC/DC converters
• LC filter
• DC/DC converters
• EV storage systems

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM
WORKING
V2G technology allows an electric vehicle to synchronise with the electricity grid and inject power back into the grid
using a specialised bidirectional charger.
It to function, the following three prerequisites are required:
• An electric vehicle with V2G capability.
• A compatible bidirectional charger.
• The owner must participate in a V2G program such as a VPP (Virtual Power Plant program).

However, you cannot simply connect a bidirectional charger to an EV and start feeding power into the grid
without having approval from the grid operator. For it to work, the grid operator must be able to manage the
bidirectional charger remotely and control the amount of energy injected into the grid. This remote management
is typically done via a Virtual Power Plant program (VPP)

ADVANTAGE
• The charging stations for EV can act as grid connection points through which the power can be given
back
• EV can provide electricity to houses and offices during the demand peaks of electricity using automatic
generation control (Grid regulation)
• Can increase efficiency and reliability of the grid system and the EV, most of the peak load demands can
be met through this without needed to install one more power station
• Investment and the implementation of the EV compared to non EV is rather cheap and is an form of
renewable energy
SCOPE
• Precedence research tells that the global vehicle-to-grid technology market would have attained up to $17.27
billion by 2027.
• It is observed that the growth rate in EVSEs - Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment revenue has increased
globally to up to 80%.
• Using many trending technologies a V2G technology can be designed and implemented which will benefit many
users and the electricity market.
• Autonomy of the EV is increasing as the integration between the EV and the grid can be made easy
CONCLUSION
• Vehicle-to-grid capabilities provides important services to grid operator, which includes the balancing of
renewable peaks and valleys, providing spinning reserves, and balancing frequencies.
• In further studies it will be shown that V2G improves the technical performance of the grid in areas such as
power quality, efficiency, stability and reliability.
• V2G technology also encourages the use of renewable energy sources like solar and wind energy which is
beneficial in account of environmental conditions.
• The challenges to the V2G technology include battery deterioration, reduced life of PEV, need for comprehensive
communication between vehicles and the grid, effects on distribution equipment, infrastructure changes, social,
cultural and technical problems and increased cost of generation
