What does CPR Stands for?

C = Cardio (Heart)

P = Pulmonary Lungs)

R = Resuscitation (Recover)
CARDIOPULMONARY
RESUSCITATION

 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an

emergency procedure that combines chest
compressions with ventilation given to someone who's
in cardiac arrest.

2
Purpose
 Restore cardiopulmonary functioning

 Prevent irreversible brain damage from anoxia

Cardiac Arrest

It is loss of cardiac
function, breathing and loss
of consciousness
Causes of Cardiac Arrest
6H 5T
1. Hypoxia
1. Tension Pneumothorax
2. Hipovolemia
2. Cardiac Tamponade
3. Hypo/Hyperkalemia
3. Toxicity
4. Hydrogen Ion (Acidosis)
4. Trombosis Coronary
5. Hypohermia
5. Trombosis Pulmonary
6. Hypoglycemia
Children usually have healthy hearts.
Breathing trouble is often the cause of
a child needing CPR.

CPR for Child : Scene Safety and Assesment

 Make sure the scene is safe

 Tap and shout and ask if he
is OK (check for
responsiveness: he moves,
speaks, blinks, or otherwise
reacts)
 If he is responsive, ask the
person if he needs help
 If he is unresponsive, shout
for help
CPR for Child : Shout for help
CPR for Child : Check for breathing
 Scan the chest for 5 – 10 seconds.

Chest Compression

 Push Hard (Compression depth about

2 inches / 5 cm)
 Push Fast (100 to 120/min
 Allow complete chest recoil
 Minimize interruptions in
compressions
 Avoid Hyperventilation
 Change compressor every 2 minutes,
or sooner if fatigued
 Use feedback device
CPR for Child : Compression : Ventilation

 Provide high-quality CPR

 1 rescuer: 30 compression and 2
breaths
 2 rescuers: 15 compression and 2
breaths

REMEMBER!!!
Unresponsive + No normal breathing or only
gasping

PROVIDE CPR!!!
CPR for Child : Open the airway, give 2 breaths

 Open the airway

 Give 2 breaths and watch

for chest rise (blow for 1
second for each):
 Mouth-to-mouth
