GARIFUNA CULTURE

The Garifuna culture is recognized for keeping alive


the richness of its customs and traditions, dances and
musical rhythms, its gastronomy and artisanal
characteristics, language, rituals and practices of
caring for nature, inherited from its ancestors and
transmitted to the new generations.
Garifuna Music
The use of drums is an important role in Garínagu music. The main
one is the Segunda (a bass drum). These are generally made by
hand by the Garínagu from wood, logs and antelope or deer skin.

There are certain types of songs that are associated with their work,
some are played, others are danced and some are reserved for
rituals of their culture.

​There are two main styles, the Punta and the Parranda.​
