Introduction
Today you will learn a little
about performing arts and
literature. This will take place
in the form of a quiz and each
of you will take part. We will
not read texts or learn
dialogues. Today we will
choose words, guess riddles
and crossword puzzles.
Performing arts
The performing arts are arts such as music, dance, and
drama which are performed for an audience. They
are different from the visual arts, which involve the
use of paint, canvas or various materials to create
physical or static art objecs. Performing arts include
a range of disciplines which are performed in front
of a live audience, including theatre, music, and
dance.
Theatre, music, dance, object manipulation, and other
kinds of performances are present in all human
cultures. The history of music and dance date to
pre-historics time whereas circuls skills date to at
least Ancient Egipt. Many performing arts are
performed professionally. Performance can be in
purpose-built buildings, such as theatres and opera
houses, on open air stages at festivals, on stages in
tents such as circuses or on the street.
Literature
Literature is any collection of written work, but it
is also used more narrowly for writings
specifically considered to be an art form,
especially prose, fiction, drama, poetry, and
including both print and digital writting. In recent
centuries, the definition has expanded to include
oral literature, also known as orature much of
which has been transcribed. Literature is a
method of recording, preserving, and transmitting
knowledge and entertaiment, and can also have a
social, psychological, spiritual, or political role.
Literature, as an art form, can also include works
in various non-fiction genres, such as biography,
diaries, memoir, letters, and essays. Within its
broad definition, literature includes non-fictional
books, articles or other written information on a
particular subject.
