FLORA & FAUNA IN
PUNJAB
 The north-eastern part is home to animals like
horses. Wildlife sanctuaries have many more
species of wild animals like the otter, wild boar,
wildcat, fruit bat, hog deer, flying fox, squirrel,
and mongoose. Naturally formed forests can be
seen in the Shivalik ranges in the districts of
Ropar, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur.
 The endangered species of fauna in Punjab accordingly
to Prasad (1984) of ZSI are Desert cat, Caracal and
those belonging to Vulnerable category are wolf,
clawless otter, Leopard cat, Panthat, Black buck and
Chinkara. 29 species are under schedules of Indian Wild
Life Protection Act 1972 and 8 species are under CITES.
 Indian pangolin, Wolf, Chital, Chinkara olter and smooth
Indian olter are rare and long eared hedgehog, Flying
fox, Indian porcupine, Indian fox, Hog deer, Barking
deer are reported to have low populations.

ARUNACHAL PRADESH
 The flora and fauna of Arunachal Pradesh comprise over 5000
varieties of plants, 500+ varieties of fauna and over 650 bird species.
Arunachal Pradesh is primarily known for its orchids, with over 500
distinct varieties. The state is therefore, also known as the Orchid
State of India.
• Some of the major flora found in Arunachal Pradesh include,
Arunachal macowani, blue vanda, red vanda, dapper dendrobium,
and several species of orchids, teak, sal, and gurjan, rhododendrons,
hedychiums, oaks, canes, bamboo and medicinal and aromatic
plants.
• Common animals in Arunachal Pradesh include tiger, leopard, snow
tiger, black panther, elephants, black deer, barking deer, musk deer,
flying fox, monkey, wild buffalo, wild goat, fruit bat, and more.

The state is home to several large mammals, including tigers,
leopards, snow leopards, and elephants. The state's wildlife also
includes several species of deer, including the black deer, barking
deer, and musk deer. The state also hosts rare feline species like
the Golden Cat and Marbled Cat.
Arunachal Pradesh is also a bird watcher's paradise, with over 500
bird species recorded in the state. The state bird, the great hornbill, is
a common sight in the state's forests. Other bird species found in the
state include the white-winged wood duck, the state bird of Assam,
and the tragopan, a type of pheasant.
