WALTZ
• Woltz is known as waltzer from the Latin “volvere”
meaning to rotate
• is one of the most popular Modern Standard dances that
travels around the line of the dance characterized by its
“rise and fall” and “body sway” action played in triple time
signature.
• The music of Johann Strauss, an Austrian composer
lived in Vienna helped to popularize the Waltz.
WALTZ HAS DIFFERENT STYLES :

1. American Waltz
2. International Waltz
3. Viennese Waltz.
1. American waltz -style uses both closed and open movements often
moving toward the nearest wall or the center of the ballroom. It allows
more freedom of expression.
2. International waltz- style is danced exclusively in the closed dance
position. It is slower however this style was heavily codified.
3. Viennese waltz - style was the earliest form of the dance that is close
to the contemporary forms. It was prominent in the mid-19th century in
Vienna, Austria but until now it is one of the most popular dance in dance
sport competition.
The basic step pattern of waltz is Box step.
