THERAPEUTIC CLASSIFICATION
1.VASOPRESSOR
The main categories of adrenergic receptors relevant to vasopressor activity
are the alpha-1 & beta-1 adrenergic receptors, as well as the dopamine receptors [2,3]. Alpha
adrenergic — Activation of alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, located in vascular walls, induces
significant vasoconstriction.
Noradrenaline
Dopamine
Phenylephrine
Methoxamine
Mephentermine and metaraminol
2.CARDIAC STIMULANT
A cardiac stimulant is a substance which acts as a stimulant of the heart- Beta 2 receptor.
Adrenaline
Dopamine
Dopexamine
Dobutamine
Fenoldopam
Isoprenaline
Ephedrine
3.CNS STIMULANT
A type of drug that increases the levels of certain chemicals in the brain and
increases alertness, attention, energy, and physical activity. CNS stimulants also raise blood
pressure and increase heart rate and breathing rate.
Amphetamine
Dexamphetamine
Ephedrine
4.BRONCHO DILATOR
Bronchodilators are a type of medication that make breathing easier. They do this
by relaxing the muscles in the lungs and widening the airways (bronchi) - Beta-2 receptor
Adrenaline
Isoprenaline
Salmeterol
Perbuterol
Fenoterol
Formoterol
5.NASAL DECONGESTANTS
Decongestants are a type of medicine that can provide short-term
relief for a blocked or stuffy nose (nasal congestion). They can help ease the symptoms of
conditions such as colds and flu, hay fever and other allergic reactions, catarrh and sinusitis.
Ephedrine
Pseudoephedrine
Phenylpropanolamine
Phenylephrine
Oxymetazoline
Naphazoline
6.APPETITE SUPRESSANTS
Appetite suppressants are drugs designed to curb hunger and, in turn, help you lose
weight.
Fenfluramine – release serotonin.
Dexfenfluramine
Sibutramine(banned)
7.UTERINE RELAXANTS
Beta 2 receptor
• Salbutamol
• Terbutaline
• Isoxsuprine
• Ridodrine(betamimetics)
