INTRODUCTION

• GEOPOLYMER CONCRETE :
Geo – materials from Earth having Si,Al and Ca
Polymer – series of long chain networks of inorganic molecules
• Basic unit is Sialate i.e, Si:Al = 1:1
• Term coined by Prof.J. Davidovits in 1978
• Made from utilization of industrial waste materials such as fly ash and ground
granulated blast furnace slag(GGBS).
• Geopolymer Concrete = Fly Ash + GGBS + Aggregates + Alkaline Activators

B.Vijaya Rangan Geopolymer Concrete high-alkaline solution to form a
paste that binds the loose coarse
and fine aggregates, and other
unreacted materials in the
mixture.

• The test results presented in this

paper show the effects of various
parameters on the properties of
geopolymer concrete.

• The application of geopolymer

concrete and future research
needs in this area of study are
also identified.

Polymer Concrete influence the properties of the geo
polymer concrete in the fresh and
hardened state.
• These results are utilized to propose a
simple method for the design of geo
polymer concrete mixtures.
• Test data of various short-term and long-
term properties of the geo polymer
concrete.

• GGBS content, alkaline solution/binder
ratio and curing condition are found to
be most influential parameters on
compressive strength and workability
of geopolymer concrete.

4. G. Jayarajan,S. Arivalagan An experimental studies of • Cement replacement by weight of

Geopolymer Concrete Flyash and GGBS shows better results
incorporated with Fly Ash & in hardened concrete characteristics.
GGBS
• Compressive resistance and tensile
strength. With the rise in curing time
from 3 to 28 days, the compressive
strength of geopolymer concrete
increases.

5. Aanal Shah Optimum Utilization of • Complete elimination of cement

GGBS in Fly Ash Based through the development of a
Geopolymer Concrete geopolymer concrete containing the
mixture of fly ash and ground
granulated blast furnace slag
(GGBS), activated by sodium based
alkaline activators.

• The strength parameters were

studied for a mixture of sodium
silicate and sodium hydroxide
solution having concentration 12M.

• Replacing fly ash with 30% of GGBS

gave the best results.
GEOPOLYMERIZATION PROCESS
ENVIRONMENTAL SIGNIFICANCE

• Cement production accounts to release of high amounts of CO2 to the atmosphere.

• 1 tonne of cement production = 1 tonne of CO2.
• Contributes to 7% of world CO2 emission.
• Cement production is increasing by 5 % annually.
OBJECTIVES

• To examine the mechanical performance and durability of Geopolymer Cinder

based concrete.

• Mechanical Performance : Compressive strength , Tensile strength and Split

tensile strength

• Durability : Rapid Chloride Test,Acid Attack Strength
