Properties of Congruence
for Triangles.
Theorem 17: Congruence for
triangles are reflexive,
symmetric, and transitive.
Reflexive Property:

; ;

 ∠A ∠A ; ∠B ∠B ;
∠C ∠C
Symmetric Property:

The symmetric property says

that if one geometric shape is
congruent to another, then the
second shape is also congruent
to the first.
Symmetric Property:

 ; ;
 ∠D ∠G ; ∠F ∠I ; ∠E ∠H
Transitive Property:

The transitive property of congruence

states that “if two shapes are
congruent to the third shape, then all
the shapes are congruent to each other
Transitive Property:

 Z A;A P;P Z

Example 3:

If the measure of one of

the congruent angles of
an isosceles triangle is
49.7°, find the measure
of the other two angles.
Solution:
Let x = measure of one of the congruent angle.
x + x + y = 180
2x + y = 180
y = 180 -2x
= 180 – 2(49.7°)
= 180 – 99.4
y = 80.6°
The measure of the third angle is 80.6°.
