AIM
The aim of this study is to comprehensively evaluate and analyze the visual outcomes,
patient satisfaction, and complications associated with multifocal intraocular lens
(IOL) implantation. This investigation seeks to provide insights into the efficacy,
challenges, and potential advantages of multifocal IOLs in improving post-cataract
surgery visual outcomes, thereby contributing to the enhancement of patient care and
informed decision-making in ophthalmic practice.
AIM

This study aims to thoroughly assess visual outcomes, patient satisfaction, and
complications linked with multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. By doing so,
it seeks to offer valuable insights into the effectiveness, challenges, and potential
benefits of multifocal IOLs in enhancing post-cataract surgery visual outcomes.
Ultimately, this investigation aims to contribute significantly to improved patient care
and informed decision-making in ophthalmology
Introduction
● The advancement in the field of cataract surgeries has enabled the patients to lead a
spectacle free Post operative life.
● This is possible because of the introduction of the multifocal IOLs.
● Compared to the monofocal IOLs, which have a single focal length for the distant
vision, the multifocal IOLs help the patient to see near, intermediate and distant vision to
a certain extent without much discomfort.
● However, even the Multifocal IOLs carry certain disadvantages compared to the
monofocal IOLs such as contrast sensitivity, halo and glare.
Material and Method

● 30 Patients - 19 males and 11 females, who were diagnosed the cataract and posted
for cataract surgery.
● This was conducted at institute of ophthalmology, joseph eye hospital, during july
2022 and approved by ethics committee

● Study shows positive post-cataract surgery vision enhancement with multifocal IOLs.
● Strong improvements in visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, and patient satisfaction
noted.
● Acknowledged study limitations, but findings strongly support multifocal IOL efficacy.
● Indicates potential for broader use in ophthalmic practice, urging further research.
● Emphasizes need for refining outcomes and patient satisfaction in cataract surgery
