1. Participative Management Focus:

■ Definition: Participative Management, also

known as Employee Involvement or Employee
Participation, is an organizational approach
that encourages employees at all levels to
actively contribute to decision-making
processes. It aims to harness the collective
intelligence and expertise of the workforce to
improve organizational performance and
employee satisfaction.
The Concept of "Empowerment":

Definition: Empowerment is a key component of

participative management. It involves granting
employees the authority and autonomy to make
decisions within their areas of responsibility.
It's about giving individuals the confidence and
tools they need to take ownership of their work
and contribute to the organization's success.
■ The Concept of "Delegation":

■ Definition: Delegation is the process of

assigning tasks and responsibilities to
employees while retaining accountability for
the outcomes. In participative management,
delegation often involves sharing decision-
making authority and tasks with employees to
distribute work and decision-making across
the organization.
The Concept of "Influence":

Definition: Influence refers to the ability of employees to shape

decisions and outcomes within the organization. In participative
management, employees have the opportunity to influence
decisions through their active participation and contributions.

The Concept of "Collective Bargaining" and "Representation":

■ Definition: Collective Bargaining is a formal process in which

employee representatives negotiate with management over
various aspects of employment, such as wages, working
conditions, and benefits. Representation involves employees
having a voice through elected or appointed representatives.
Distributive Bargaining:

■ Definition: Distributive Bargaining is a competitive

negotiation approach where the parties involved try to
maximize their share of resources. It often involves a
win-lose mentality, focusing on dividing limited
resources.

Integrative Bargaining:

■ Definition: Integrative Bargaining is a cooperative

negotiation approach where the parties seek mutually
beneficial solutions. It emphasizes problem-solving,
collaboration, and creating win-win outcomes.
■ Theoretical Foundations of Participative
Management:

■ Ancient Tenet of Management: This foundation

traces back to ancient civilizations where leaders
sought input from advisors and subordinates to
make informed decisions.

■ Human-relations Movement: This movement

emphasized the importance of employee well-being
and social interactions in the workplace. It
contributed to the development of participative
management as a way to address employees'
psychological needs and enhance job satisfaction.
■ Bureaucratic Model: This model laid the
groundwork for structured decision-making
processes within organizations. Participative
management evolved as a way to combine
bureaucracy with employee involvement, striking
a balance between efficiency and inclusivity.

■ Professional Model: This model emphasizes the

expertise and knowledge of employees. In this
model, participative management is seen as a
means to tap into the specialized skills and
insights of employees to solve complex problems
and make informed decisions.
Bureaucratic-Professional Model: This
model integrates both bureaucratic
structures and professional expertise,
allowing for participative decision-
making while maintaining
organizational order and efficiency.
3. The Concept of "Empowerment":

■ Scenario: In a customer service call center, customer

support representatives are empowered to make
decisions regarding refunds or service upgrades
without needing managerial approval. This
empowerment helps resolve customer issues more
efficiently and improves customer satisfaction.
4. The Concept of "Delegation":

■ Scenario: A project manager delegates specific tasks to

team members based on their individual strengths and
expertise. By sharing responsibility and decision-
making, the team can manage the project more
effectively, leading to a successful outcome.
5. The Concept of "Consultation":

■ Scenario: In a marketing agency, the creative

team consults with clients to gather their
input and preferences before finalizing a
branding campaign. Client feedback and
suggestions are actively considered to ensure
the campaign aligns with the client's vision.
