What is the Indigenous Voice to
Parliament?
 The voice to parliament originates from the Uluru Statement from the Heart

 The Voice would allow permanent representation and recognition for


Aboriginal and Torres Strait in the Constitution
 The voice would be an advisory body, but would not be able to overrule
parliament

 It would be enable First Nations people from all over Australia, to provide their
input into
a) Federal government
b) Decisions
c) Policies and laws that affect their lives
What will be added to the
constitution?

The Voice will give independent advice to the Parliament and
Government
It will be chosen by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
based on the wishes of local communities
It will be representative of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
communities, gender-balanced and include youth
It will be empowering community-led inclusive, respectful and
culturally informed
It will be accountable and transparent
It will work alongside existing organisations and traditional
structures
It will not have a program delivery function
