Definition
•A teaching aid is a tool used by teachers ,
facilitators , or tutors to help learners
improve their skills , to illustrate or
reinforce a skill , fact , or idea and to
relieve anxiety ,fears , or boredom , since
many teaching aids are like games.
•All the tools the teacher use in order to
facilitate the process of achieving the
desired educational objectives.
The importance of teaching aids
•Teaching aids have great importance in
teaching because of the sensory
experiences they provide to students
• Attracting the attention of the students to
make him far away from boredom.
• It is more effective in learning because it is
realistic.
• It clarifies the content as it turns what is
theoretical to what is practical (can’t be
forgotten).
• It saves time and effort.
• It provides positive attitudes and experiences
for students.
How to work with teaching aids
•A teacher should use teaching aids after
a thorough introduction to the topic.
•Although students love to get their
hands on materials, the items are
worthless if their are not properly
introduced.

• To specify the objective of the aid
• To make sure the information included is true
• To be of high quality scientifically and
artistically
• To be interesting and attractive
• To be financially appropriate
• To use it before hand to ensure that it is
appropriate for achieving the objectives of
the lesson

Visual aids

 Definition:
 The aids which use sense of vision are called Visual aids

 Most aids are visual in nature .

• Calendars

• Drawings
• Overhead projectors

Audio aids
 They are aurally based.
-They can be defined as models and devices that
can be heard to give an image of something,
somebody and some situations.
• They aim at arresting learners’ attention during
the class.
• They include
-Recorded materials
-Radios
-Cassette players
Audio-visual aids
•Video cassette
•DVDs
•Movies
Important consideration
•Teaching aids are not
replacement for teaching
strategies.
•Instead, they are supplemental
resources for educators.
