MEASURES OF

CENTRAL TENDENCY
Define each Appreciate
of the three the
measures of significance
central of measures
tendency of central
tendency
OBJECTIVES:
At the end
of the
lesson, the
learners be
able to;
VALUES
INTEGRATION:
Calculate “Associate the
each of the Measures of
three Central
measures of Tendency in the
central real-life
tendency situation”

MECHANICS:
4 Pics 1 Word is a word
guessing game. It presents you
with four pictures and the tasks
you with guessing what specific
word fits with the theme of the
photos presented.

MEASURES OF
CENTRAL TENDENCY
MEAN
it is the most commonly used measure
of central tendency. It is defined as the
sum of all the data scores divided by
the number of scores.

Mean =
EXAMPLE:
The grade 7 students in math were as
follows:
80, 81, 83, 89, 82, 86, 85, 89, 89, 84, 79

= 85
MEDIAN
it is the middle value. To find the
median, we have to follow the rule.
Arrange the data in order, from
least to greatest.
EXAMPLE:
3, 9, 5, 10, 4, 8, 1, 2, 6
5 , 6, 8, 9, 10
1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
Example:

Find the median of Jessica's math test scores.

95, 85, 88, 95, 80, 74, 86, 96.
MODE
it is the value that occurs the most
often in the data set. To find the
mode for a set of data just select the
value that appears most often.
Always remember, if the given data
set doesn’t have a mode, don’t write
zero mode just write no mode. And
also, don’t forget the rule.
EXAMPLE:
Using the same data.
80, 80, 83, 84, 85, 87, 88, 89, 90, 94
“Which value appears the most?”
2. Find the mode of the data set.
21, 23, 25, 26, 24, 27, 21
3. 24, 23, 23, 22, 22, 21
“What is the mode?”
DIRECTION: You have five minutes to collect
data from your group mates. Ask the
following questions and record the data
Age:
Mean Median Mode
IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Write True if the statement is correct, then write
False if the statement is wrong.
Test. I
1: To Find the median, the given set of data has to be put
in numerical order?
2.To find the mean, you just add all of the numerical
values up?
3. The mean is used to find the number that occurs most
often.
IV. EVALUATION
Test II.
Find the mean, median and mode of the
followingdata.

(a)9,7,11,13,2,4,5,5
(b) 16, 18, 19, 21, 23, 23, 27, 29, 29, 35
(c) 0, 3, 2, 1, 3, 5, 4, 3, 1, 2, 0
IV. EVALUATION
Lets check:
Test I
1. True
2. False
3. False
Test II.
1. Mean= 7 mode= 5 median =6
2. Mean= 24median = 23 mode= 23 & 29
2.mean = 2.18 median= 2 mode= 3
V. ASSIGNMENT:
Direction: answer all the following
statements.
