BIOGENESIS THEORY

GROUP 4
-THE THEORY OF

What is the
BIOGENESIS PROPOSES
THAT NEW LIVING
ORGANISMS CAN ONLY
Biogenesis EMERGE FROM OTHER
PREVIOUSLY EXISTING
LIVING ORGANISMS AS A
Theory? RESULT OF REPRODUCTION.
REPRODUCTION CAN
OCCUR SEXUALLY OR
ASEXUALLY, HOWEVER LIFE
CAN ONLY ARISE FROM
LIVING CELLS.
What does the term biogenesis
mean?

-The prefix "bio" meaning

life and the root word
"genesis" meaning
creation forms the term
biogenesis. Biogenesis is
further elaborated as life
can only emerge from
living organisms.
WHAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF BIOGENESIS?

-Sexual and asexual reproduction are examples of

biogenesis. Sexual reproduction refers to the
organisms that receive half their genetic material
from two parent cells. Asexual reproduction refers
to the organisms that receive all their genetic
material form one single parent cell.
What are the causes of biogenesis theory
Biogenesis is based on the theory that life can only come from life, and it
refers to any process by which a lifeform can give rise to other lifeforms.
For instance, a chicken laying eggs, which hatch and become baby
chicken.
What are the two types of biogenesis?

The two most prominent examples of biogenesis

are sexual and asexual reproduction.

1. Asexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction

in which a new offspring is produced by a single
parent.
EXAMPLE OF ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION
-not all animals have two parents. Sometimes animals can be made from just one parent. This
Komodo dragon, for example, only has a mother and reproduces by parthenogenesis. Asexual
reproduction is the process of creating offspring from just one parent
2. Sexual reproduction, the production of
new organisms by the combination of
genetic information of two individuals of
different sexes.
EXAMPLE OF SEXUAL
REPRODUCTION

-fish, the male releases sperm

over the eggs after the female
has laid them
