 BRIEF HISTORY OF RUGBY
• Rugby union, often simply referred to as rugby, is a full
contact team sport ,originated in England in the early 19th
century, it is based on running with the ball in hand.
• Played with an oval-shaped ball and on a field 100mts long,
70mts wide with H-shaped goal posts on each goal line.
• Rugby sevens, also known as seven-a-side or VIIs, is a
variant of rugby union in which teams are made up of seven
players, with shorter matches.
• Recognised as an Olympic sport and will made its debut in the
2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

Touch Rugby (From Age 13) From Class 8 to 10
Contact Rugby (From Age 16) From Class 12th

 KARNATAKA RUGBY ASSOCIATION

• The Karnataka Rugby Association (KRA) is

a registered Society was formed in 2020.

• KRA developing Rugby Sports in Karnataka with their affiliated Clubs

and District associations.

• KRA priority to spread the sport across the state and at the
grassroots level with RUGBY AADU concept . Growth of Rugby
( School ,University & District) across all levels , improvement of
nutrition & Fitness in all Districts , Schools , Colleges through
Affiliation with the Karnataka Olympic Association are the three Key
areas of focus for the KRA

The Vision of KRA is to take Rugby Sport beyond the boundary of

economy by promoting bright talents from every corner of the society in
giving them opportunity to express themselves by providing best in class
coaches, infrastructure and support

Our extensive plan to Develop this sport with the concept “ RUGBY
AADU” across Schools ,Universities ,Seniors etc. with our team of
coaches and volunteers ,some of whom have participated in nationals
level tournaments , we plan to unearth some good rugby talent from the
Universities across Karnataka to compliment the great traditions of
Karnataka Universities

• Participation in AIU Rugby Championship by 2 universities Bangalore University

(Men & Women ):2017-18: till date Bangalore Central University (Men &
women)2019-2020 Till date

• Various Sports clubs associated with KRA : HI Flyers Club Dasarahalli ® ,

Pyramid Sports Club ®,Dasarahalli Sports Club® , Bharath Mata Sports
Club® ,Bhagat Youth Sports Club ® & many more
