 The Faculty of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical
Sciences at the University of Karachi owes its
origin to the Department of Pharmacy, which
was established in 1964.
 The Department of Pharmacy was raised
as the first full-fledged Faculty of Pharmacy
in the country.

 The Department of Pharmacy was
established in 1974 at University of
Sindh, Jamshoro. The Department was
upgraded to the Institute of Pharmacy
in August 1999 and finally became
Faculty on 2nd May 2005. Earlier, it
offered courses leading to the degree of
B. Pharmacy (4- year courses).

 The Gomal University, D.I.Khan Faculty has
been recognized comparatively shorter but
exciting history, dating back to 1975.
 Department of pharmacy was conferring a
three-year B-Pharmacy degree. Later on in
1980 the upgraded to Four-year degree.
 Status upgraded to Faculty of Pharmacy in
1990.

 The Faculty of Pharmacy, Bahauddin Zakariya
University, Multan owes its origin to the
Department of Pharmacy, established in 1976,
started 3 years degree of B.Pharmacy.
Later on, a four year course in 1979 on the
recommendations of the University Grants
Commission (Now HEC). B.Pharmacy (four year
program) has now been replaced by a five year
Program of Pharm-D from the session 2003-2004.
In 1992, the Faculty was restructured into five
Departments. 10

Balochistan, Quetta was established in 1980
and due to high demand of its graduates.

established in 1982. Department offers five
year Pharm-D, M.Phil, M.Phil leading to Ph.D
and Ph.D Programmes.

Nuclear Pharmacy

Nuclear Pharmacy/ Radiopharmacy:

Nuclear pharmacy focuses on preparing


radioactive isotopes for diagnostic tests & for
treating certain diseases.
 Nuclear pharmacists undergo additional training
specifically to handle the radioactive isotopes,
unlike in community & hospital pharmacies.
